Critically evaluate two factors that may impact on Parliament’s willingness to change the law?

Ok my paper is due tommorow for legal studies and I have to answer this question and I have this huge mental blank, can someone please help me. The question is: Critically evaluate two factors that may impact on Parliament’s willingness to change the law

Public Comments

  1. One factor the popularity of the change/the public perception of the change. This will effect the party's willingness to implement change or even suggest it. If the legislation is unpopular with the community it will not receive the backing in Parliament. Recent events and current affairs may impact on the Parliaments willingness to modify or change the law. Just look at September 11 and ASIO's new powers. This would be called a reactive change or a knee jerk reaction. Same could be said after port Arthur and the introduction of the new national gun control laws. The truth is all law evolves due to necessity and popularity even statutory law and to fix loop holes the may have not been realised.
